MORNING BARS

First there was a spa bathroom, then there was a back kitchen, and then the pandemic solidified the dedicated office space. With people spending more time at home, owners are continuing to redefine what home space looks like and, now it’s the master bedroom’s turn.

The master bedroom is typically larger than the other rooms in a house, sometimes it has seating and a TV hidden away in an armoire. These things make unwinding at the endof the day more pleasant. But now, homeowners are adding a new niche tothe master suite–the morning bar.

Neatly tucked away between the master bedroom and bathroom, the morning bar helps you rise and shine while still in your jammies. It usually contains as mall refrigerator, microwave oven, coffeemaker or espresso machine and a wash basin for cleaning up. In the evening, the morning bar can easily become a stop for a nightcap.

So why has the morning bar become the new trend, and why is it so important to people? Industry professionals say it’s about more than simple convenience.

Large master suites provide homeowners with a retreat within the walls of of their own home. With a spa bathroom, fireplace or beautiful windowscape, an amenity-packed bedroom is a great place to escape the stress of the outside world, and sometimes, even other family members.

While adding extra amenities can significantly increase costs, nationally homeowners are willing to spend more money on a well appointed master bedroom than areas they would typically spend on like kitchens and family rooms.

Perhaps it’s the sense of privacy that attracts many buyers. With families “living”at home more, people are beginning to focus on creating their own personal space.

But wait, are morning bars just for master suites?

As people migrate away from standard features and more towards custom ones to personalize their living spaces, amenities are taking many forms. The newly popular morning bar is indeed designed for master suites, but it can be implemented anywhere in a home.Situated in a hallway near the kids’ rooms, it provides a place for morning breakfast, quick snacks, and midnight foraging when friends are over. This is especially convenient if the bedrooms are upstairs away from the kitchen.Multi-generational families living under one roof can also benefit from the privacy a morning bar affords.

WINE ROOMS

Wine rooms are another amenity that people are giving dedicated space to. Not only are they functional for housing your favorite wines, they also provide a fun display for entertaining.

In 2020, wine sales increased 26 percent. And as the concept of Zoom wine dates increased too, people began to look for ways to store their bottles. Thus began a renewed interest in fashionable wine storage. If you are building new, a wine room is fairly easy to incorporate into your plan. If you are remodeling, a wine closet that utilizes part of a pantry may be your solution. Either way, having your wine collection easily accessible makes staying home even more fun.
