Whitehall Point, A Place to Call Home

AFTER YEARS OF PLANNING AND COLLABORATION, THIS CHARMING BEAUFORT COMMUNITY FINALLY BECOMES A REALITY

Just a short walk from downtown Beaufort across the Woods Memorial Bridge, the area’s much anticipated community of Whitehall Point will welcome new residents in Fall 2023. Nestled between a 10-acre waterfront park and the Beaufort River, Whitehall Point blends into the natural landscape of the Lowcountry. Residents will enjoy the centrally located, small-scale neighborhood that is an easy walk or bike to Historic Beaufort and the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

Years have been spent by a dedicated team of supporters researching, proposing, and gaining approval for a community that will complement the streetscape of Lady’s Island and the Beaufort waterfront. Participants from public and private interests included Beaufort County, The City of Beaufort, Whitehall Development Group, Allen Patterson Builders, CharterOne Realty, Open Land Trust, Friends of Whitehall Park, and local citizens. The final masterplan for the community includes 21 residential single-family homesites, 8 luxury townhomes, a building of mansion flats, and 4 mixed-use commercial buildings. The project developer worked with these groups to help preserve the land for the adjacent Whitehall Park to increase the public greenspace in the area and balance the density of the neighborhood, lessening the environmental impact in this prime location.

As Beaufort continues to receive national accolades as one of the “Best Places to Live in America,” the planning commission works with developers to design communities that are sensitive to human-scale urban design. These design and development concepts, known as New Urbanism, are based on the principles of how cities and towns have been built for the last several centuries: walkable blocks and streets, housing and shopping in close proximity, and accessible public spaces. Whitehall Point is an excellent example of the seven principles of New Urbanism with its walkability, connectivity, mixed-use, quality architecture, traditional neighborhood structure, increased density, and green transportation.

Allen Patterson Builders has been building homes throughout Beaufort County for over 30 years. Often recognized for his affiliation as a Southern Living Custom Builder, Patterson’s custom-built homes set the standard for luxury living in the Lowcountry. As the primary builder in Whitehall Point, Patterson and his team are working diligently to offer a community of high-quality homes with a transitional Lowcountry flair. The first home Patterson has under construction is The Designer Cottage with an expected completion in Fall 2023. This custom home is based on the award-winning Southern Living House plan named “The Loudon.” The exterior features minimal maintenance and lifetime luxury products including James Hardie siding, Marvin Elevate Windows, custom Sapele Mahogany shutters and doors, and a beautiful standing seam metal roof.

Patterson has partnered with interior designer, Cristina Swinney-Garrison to thoughtfully craft the interiors of the Designer Cottage. Swinney-Garrison’s selection of iconic colors and textures of the Lowcountry blend with modern fixtures and furnishings. Featuring furniture by Gabby Home, light fixtures by Circa Lighting, appliances by Fulgor Milano, and cabinetry by Charleston Fine Cabinetry, the Designer Home will showcase a fabulous transitional Lowcountry style. The home will highlight art and photography by Dana Bradley and Robin Raymond. The Designer Cottage will be for sale upon completion and open to the public for tours by appointment for 60 days.

Future construction by Patterson and team will include additional single-family homes, mansion flats, and townhomes. Designed by Court Atkins Group in Bluffton, South Carolina, the townhomes integrate perfectly with the small-scale streetscape of Whitehall Point, offering an option for those who prefer “lock and leave” living with lower property maintenance. The variety of housing styles will encourage a diverse community, one of the neighborhood’s goals for its residents.

“This is such a great project and it’s only the beginning. The attention to detail from all the affiliates involved in this project is really going to make this new community thrive. The architectural elements and natural waterfront combined is creating a quintessential luxury that can only be found in the Lowcountry.”
